Construction of a new cafeteria

Complex Pierre-Radisson

Customer :

Hydro-Quebec

Project description

In May 2013, Cegerco worked on the construction of the brand new cafeteria of the Pierre-Radisson complex, in Radisson, for Hydro-Québec. The first of three stages of the project aimed to build a new kitchen and dining room in a space adjacent to the current cafeteria, and after that,  renovate part of the space occupied by the old kitchen, for the last two stages.

Two major challenges made it difficult to carry out this project which stretched over 14 months:

  • Cohabitation with the daily operations of the existing cafeteria, which serves about 600 meals a day, from 5:30 am to 7:30 pm, and the dormitory area of the building. We therefore had to limit dust, noise and deliveries while respecting our work schedules.
  • The project, located in a remote area in northern Quebec, required subcontractors to drive between 12 and 20 hours to access the site, with few nearby construction services.

We have had to design, implement and plan differently stages 2 and 3 of the project to allow us to transform part of the old kitchen area into a service area adjacent to the new cafeteria.
